Our Approach to Learning

The teaching of PSHEE and Citizenship is student centred. Students are taught in mixed ability groups and a variety of teaching methods and strategies are used throughout this course. The lessons are fun and informative. The students meet outside speakers, theatre groups and take part in competitions throughout their time at The Academy. Students' performance in PSHEE and Citizenship is recorded on their report.

Curriculum

At Key Stage 3 students follow an exciting, innovative programme dictated by the national curriculum but designed to give life skills to students. The programme is catered to their needs at the time and designed to get them to consider consequences to strategies in dealing with difficult and sometimes personal issues in order to equip them to make informed decisions. Their knowledge and understanding is rewarded within the school.

At Key Stage 4, they study GCSE Citizenship. Within this course students build on their political literacy and knowledge of global interaction, in order to consider how systems around the world affect their everyday life. Units studied are Communities and Identities, Rights and responsibilities, criminal and civil law, politics, Government and democracy, the media and Global Economy. Students are externally examined in year 10 and go focus on their controlled assessment where they focus on active citizenship.
