JOURNAL ENTRIES

June 2011

Maurice Collins who lectures in the area of Policing and Criminology at the Bucks New University is presenting a session on forensics and careers and how science links to this. Staff and students involved in the KITE project are visiting Bucks New University, to produce a video summary of the project, some Hollywood stars will be born at this production.

April/May 2011

Yr.9 students in the technology department have their final ideas and are now ready to cut using a Versa laser cutter. The HP Elite book makes the operation of these CAM machines a piece of cake.

The Yr 8 and Yr 9 students have completed their unit on forensic science in conjunction with the HP laptops.

Mr. Williams is now compiling the final models of the virtual tour.

February 2011

The stem club students are now working on designing a swim suit for a paraplegic swimmer. Possibilities of video conferencing using the HP laptops are on the cards. The development of the maze games went well and students have tested their mazes using a CAMM1 cutter.

January 2011

Yr. 9 students have completed their designs for a hand held maze game and are now working with 2D Design to develop these ideas.

December 2010

The ICT has started to collect video footage and photo's of the Academy to include into their virtual tour.

Students in Science students are researching aspects of forensic science and are collecting research information on this topic.

The students in the Robotics club are programming LEGO robots to navigate through obstacles in preparation for their competition.

September 2010

Mr. Williams is working on an ICT project with students to create a virtual tour of the Academy which will be designed to be accessed on the Academy’s website.
Design Technology is continuing the development of a KS4 Wiki. This is to include;

  • Fabric test carried out in the science labs
  • Material collection and analysis including gathering evidence from the archives.
  • The evidence collected will include more primary research collected by the students together with verbal presentations

The Maths department intend for students to carry out a research project looking at the ‘average student’. There has been a problem ordering the correct sizes of uniform for students. This project will address this problem by finding the ‘average’ boy and girl. In addition to the project students could make a cardboard representation of their average child to display at the end.

July 2010

Creation of an interim report video in conjunction with the BNU - Staff involved in the KITE project summarized their achievements and possible improvements on film. The film can be viewed here.

June 2010

The compiling of the interim report has begun. It is evident that students have enjoyed using mobile technology as part of their learning.

April/May 2010

At the start of the summer term Science are carrying out field explorations on the Academy site  researching organisms and their habitats, this will be done using HP tablets in video conferences.

Design technology on the other hand are developing a wiki in Textiles while Graphic Products students will be working on creating a mobile phone for the future were they will make models with a 3D router.

March 2010

The first projects in the Academy started in Science and Design Technology. Science are looking at pressure and its effects while Design Technology focused on solving design problems in Textiles and Graphics.

FEBRUARY 2010

Mr Froment recently attended the 2010 HP Innovations in Education Worldwide Summit in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA.  More than 120 educators from 23 countries were present.
