academy skill force trip
students visit raf brize norton
10 November 2010
On Wednesday 10th November, Skill Force year 10 students went on a visit to RAF Brize Norton to see the Parachute Training School and its Museum. This was an opportunity for the students to look at the work of parachute training instructors and their role within the military.
During the day the students experienced a tour of the museum looking at both the history of the PTS and up to date equipment used today. Students then participated in basic parachute training exercises, which included packing a parachute and then doing a 45 foot controlled descent from a mock hercules.
Several students had to overcome a fear of heights to climb up the giant ladder into the mock hercules before being rigged up into a parachute harness and doing their descent. Most of the AVA students enjoyed the jump so much, they then went for a second descent!
