intermediate maths challenge

3 February 2011

On Thursday 3rd February 2011, 70 of our students at Aylesbury Vale Academy sat the Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC) paper and achieved some excellent results.

The Intermediate Maths Challenge, aimed at students in years 9-11, is run by the UK Mathematics Trust. The IMC encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems - problems which are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience; they are also meant to be memorable and enjoyable.

The following students performed especially well in the paper and have received certificates:

Year 11
Ryan Mourier Silver and Best in School
Sohail Hussain Silver

Year 10
Samuel Patrick-Robertson Bronze
Ishrat Kushal Bronze
Kelsey Hardy Bronze
Aimee Mannall Bronze
Bethany Carson Bronze

Year 9
Amelia Morgan Bronze
Sam Ingram Bronze

Well done to all who took part and a special congratulations to those who received the above awards.

The next Maths Challenge event takes place on Wednesday 31st March when 4 students from year 8 and 9 will head to Preston Manor High School to participate in Team Math Challenge 2011. Training for this event has already begun and we look forward to representing Aylesbury Vale Academy on that day.
