Spring 2011

My Year 10 Media class were recently treated to professional tuition from Terry Lee, a local photographer during their double lessons recently.

He began by teaching them the basics; how to hold a camera correctly, auto focus and shot composition (or 'filling the frame' as Terry calls it!). A lively Q&A session helped resolve any uncertainties and practise shots were taken around the classroom.

Each had a Canon 550D to play with and trust me, that's decent piece of kit! Once the class had mastered the fundamentals it was time to take the plunge…auto was turned to manual. Now they had to learn how to control the amount of light entering the lens by altering the shutter speed manually.

It was getting technical but the students took it in their stride. The class now headed out onto The Academy grounds to take some shots in sunlight. It was fantastic to see such engagement along with the beautiful, artistic photography that was produced.

A huge thank you to Terry for his instruction and a big well done to my class from me!
