The Principal's Blog

Welcome to the Principal's new Blog

This is an opportunity for students to ask the Principal a question or make a comment or suggestion to him regarding the new Academy. Each week the Principal will read all the questions and comments and will address the key issues in his weekly blog, which will appear below.

We hope you find this useful and look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to your new Academy

I hope you have all had a good break.  We have all been working very hard over the summer to get your new Academy ready for you and I hope you are as keen to get started as we are.  You will notice many areas of the Academy have been renovated and refreshed and you’ll soon have the opportunity to see your fantastic new innovation centre.

We have also been busy working on innovative new ways of teaching and learning - one of the biggest changes is the new vertical tutor group organisation which I am sure you will find a positive and rewarding way to learn.  In addition, we welcome several new members of staff who are very excited to be joining us and to be teaching you.

You will all now have your new uniform, which is looking fantastic.  Your PE kit will be delivered shortly.  Take pride in wearing your new uniform – and remember, top buttons of shirts MUST BE DONE UP – If you find you are missing the button, we have a stud machine we can use to fasten it for you.  ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER EXTERNAL CLOTHING will be allowed.  If you are unsure about any aspect of the uniform policy you can check via the Parent section of this website or ask a member of staff.

A new on-line reward system is now underway – perform well, achieve points and get rewards which you can spend. You will have an on-line account where you can see the points you have been awarded.

There are lots more exciting changes to come, so watch this space.

Uniform

Thank you to those of you who have sent in questions to me. One strong theme this week has been about the Girls' Academy uniform. It will not be compulsory to wear a skirt, girls may wear trousers but the trousers must dark grey and cannot be jeans.

Full details of the uniform are outlined in the Parent newsletter which will be going out later this week. The information is also on the website in the Parent Information section.

More next week.

The First Blog

Welcome to my first blog.  I will be writing once a week and would like to encourage you to send any questions or queries you may have, so I can make sure I cover the issues that are important to you.

So, what have I been up to?  As some of you may know, on 6th June I competed in the Three Peaks Challenge.  It was exhausting but exhilarating, and I would like to take a group of students up these hills in the future and possibly do the Three Peaks Challenge with them.  So let me know if this is of interest.  Here are my results:

  1. Snowdon – 1 hour 55 minutes
  2. Scaffell Pike – 2 hours 10 minutes
  3. Ben Nevis – 3 hours 25 minutes
  4. Total time (including 2 hours sleep when I got to Nevis) – 20 hours 48 minutes.

On Saturday, 13th June I was privileged to attend the fantastic Quarrendon School 50th celebrations. The day and evening events were a tremendous success and everyone enjoyed themselves. It's a tribute to Kim Hopping and her team that this happened.

At the moment I am planning the staff and student induction, and the Behaviour Charter for students, parents and staff (to replace the old home-school agreement) that everyone must sign and agree. It is with the Student Reference Group at the moment and they are giving me feedback.

We have been busy recruiting for September and currently only have three vacancies left - two in science and one in maths.

More next week.
