Our specialisms

Overview

The Academy has science, technology and information & communications technology (ICT) as specialist subjects. The specialisms are used to develop innovative, exciting, challenging and engaging approaches to the teaching of science and technology, utilising students' excitement for, and understanding of, ICT.

Our aims include:

  • Supporting the delivery of all subjects across the curriculum
  • Developing strong science, technology and ICT links with partner primary schools
  • Working with researchers-in-residence to develop a product or service for use by a local community organisation
  • Appointing expert and highly qualified teachers in each of the specialisms
  • Using science, technology and ICT 'Ambassadors' to assist with project work
  • Offering academic and vocational courses in science, technology and ICT
  • Accelerated learning in science using, for example, cognitive acceleration through science education (CASE)
  • Delivering gifted and talented programmes in science, technology and ICT
