subject overview

The Academy’s curriculum helps students to recognise the relationships between traditional subjects and the wider world. Students will learn to combine relevant knowledge, experience and critical thinking to solve authentic problems.

The curriculum also explicitly aims to develop intercultural awareness and students will learn about their own and others’ social and national cultures.

Effective communication is fundamental to learning. A good command of one’s own language enables clear expression of ideas, attitudes and feelings. The learning of other languages extends that competence and teaches appreciation of different cultures and ways of thinking.

The philosophy and approach of the International Baccalaureate Organisation reflects the sponsors’ view of education. The Academy aspires to be an International Baccalaureate World School and intends to apply for “candidate status” for the Middle Years Programme. As a result, the curriculum at the Academy will evolve to incorporate the following compulsory areas of study for all students in Years 7-11.

  • Art
  • English
  • Humanities
  • ICT
  • Mathematics
  • Modern Foreign Languages
  • Performing Arts
  • Physical Education
  • Science
  • Technology
