Summer Reading Challenge - Primary

We all feel very passionate about Reading for Pleasure at the AVA, and we hope all of our children will continue to read over the Summer break! We would like to introduce the Bucks Summer Reading Challenge to you all, which has been set up through the Bucks Library Service.

This summer, children aged 4-11 can visit Buckinghamshire Libraries to join a superstar team and their marvellous mascots and get involved in a Summer Reading Challenge themed around the power of play, sport, games and physical activity.

This year’s Challenge is a celebration of sports, games and teamwork in partnership with the Youth Sports Trust.

If your child takes part in the Summer Challenge, we would love to see their certificate and medal in September when they return to school!

Ages 4 to 11

  1. Sign up at your local library to take part in this year’s Challenge and receive a Ready, Set, Read collector's folder
  2. Children set their reading goal (we suggest six books) and borrow and read library books of their own choice during the summer, collecting a special sticker for each book
  3. Children who complete the Summer Reading Challenge are presented with a certificate and a medal

Pre-school Mini Challenge

  1. The pre-school challenge is suitable for children aged 3 years and under and is a great way to encourage families with younger children to regularly borrow and read books over the summer, especially if older siblings are taking part in the main Challenge.
