Local Member of Parliament visited the Aylesbury Vale Academy recently to view the Rugby Football Unions’s ‘All Schools’ Rugby Programme in action.  This scheme provides schools with considerable funding to improve the provision and quality of delivery of Rugby in non-traditional Rugby playing schools.

Upon his arrival at the Academy, Mr Lidington was greeted by Adam Poland and Tim Holmes (the Head of PE at Aylesbury Vale Academy and the Bucks RFU Development officer).  Following brief introductions Mr Lidington braved the inclement Aylesbury Weather and observed a Rugby session being delivered by Chris Bacon (an AVA PE Teacher) and Nick O’Leary (HLTA).  The Aylesbury Vale Academy has benefitted from this scheme by having access to a fully qualified RFU coach to deliver sessions and train staff members in its delivery.  The purchase of some new Rugby Posts to be used in lessons and competitive fixtures as well as delivery of tackle pads, bibs and balls.  One of the highlights of this scheme is the chance to design a bespoke Rugby Strip for the Academy in conjunction with Canterbury Sports.  This new strip was modelled for My Lidington by the class and will be formally presented to the Academy at the England v Ireland 6 Nations game at Twickenham.

Folowing the session, Mr Lidington spoke to the students asking about what they thought of the scheme (which is very well received by the students at the Academy) and our future plans to embed Rugby in the school sporting ethos.
