Primary Choir Wins Bucks Best School

AVA Primary School Choir Wins Mix 96 Bucks Best School Choir Competition!

Our amazing Primary School Choirs have had an exciting time so far this term - we entered the Bucks Best School Choir competition, run by Mix 96 Radio, and beat several other schools to WIN the competition!

Children in both our KS2 choirs (the year 3/4 choir, and the year 5/6 choir) came together to learn a harmonised version of the Christmas classic Winter Wonderland, which we recorded and submitted to the competition. We found out the amazing news that we had won in the whole-school assembly a couple of days later, when we listened to the announcement made on the Mix 96 Radio Breakfast Show. The response from all our students was amazing - everyone was excited, and very supportive of the choir's hard work!

There were two major prizes for winning the competition. The first was a whole-choir trip to the Waterside Theatre on 7th November to watch Nativity! The Musical. The PTA kindly funded the coach travel to and from the theatre, and the children had an amazing afternoon away from their lessons to watch the show. Several members of the public commented how well-behaved and enthusiastic the children were.

It was then on to the hard work to learn more songs for the Aylesbury Christmas Lights Switch-On, where we were invited to perform as our second prize. We found out that the stage wasn't going to be big enough for all 60 members of our choirs to perform together (we are so lucky to have so many enthusiastic singers!), so the children divided into three groups and each group performed one song - It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Silent Night and, of course, our winning piece Winter Wonderland! On 14th November, the children took to the stage to WOW the Aylesbury public with their performances - another huge thanks to the PTA and PL Schoolwear for providing the festive outfits. The children performed beautifully, were incredibly well-behaved, and supported each other in a way which perfectly demonstrated the values of the school. We are all so very proud of them! Now onto the next performances...
