The PE department chose a group of year 7 hockey enthusiasts to visit the London Cup Hockey at the Olympic Park.  12 students were lucky enough to go on the trip and Urwah Karim, Thomas King and Jade Gascoigne have all written about their trip.

“The journey to the Hockey Centre had us bustling with excitement, but the trek to East London felt like an eternity.  Yet we grew excited when the Orbit  Tower came into view.  We disembarked from the bus outside the velodrome but there was no time to explore as we headed straight to the hockey pitches.

The day’s events began with Scotland v South Africa.  Both teams put up a great effort, with South Africa eventually emerging victorious 2-0.  Flags and inflatable beaters were waved and banged encouragingly.

The atmosphere was electric and the fans chanted as they were treated to a sporting feast accompanied by some great commentary and music” – Jade Gascoigne.

“We had a break after a brilliant game when we had time to do some fun and games for about 20 minutes.  It was almost time for the final game of the day England v Wales.  I couldn’t wait for that game.  The match was much better than the Scotland game as     England won 8 goals to nil.  The England ladies came round the edge of the stadium and thanked us for coming.  I didn’t get any autographs but my friend did so I took a photo of it!

As we came back to the minibus we got some pictures of a brilliant view of the Olympic stadium and the rings, but we also got to go in the velodrome – it was awesome” – Thomas King.

“That day was amazing, it was truly amazing.  I had been offered the chance to go on a trip to the       international hockey matches in the Olympic Park.  This was a great day watching two hockey matches as well as seeing the Olympic landmarks.  The teams that I supported were South Africa and England who both went on to win.  When the matches finished, Miss Hennessy and Mr Poland had planned for us to go and see the other Olympic landmarks so I saw the Olympic rings and we were also able to go inside the velodrome where some people were having cycling lessons.

To sum this up I would like to say thank you to Miss Hennessy and Mr Poland for organising this trip for us as we had a great time” – Urwah Karim.
