The AVA library recently received a visit from Mrs Sandy Smith of the Aylesbury and District Soroptimist Club who kindly donated to us a copy of Aneeta Prem’s book “But It’s Not Fair”.  The club is the local branch of Soroptimist International – an organisation  with more than 80,000 members spread across 127 countries  which endeavours to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women worldwide.

The work of the Club is local, national and global and they  apply the 3Es – Educate, Empower and Enable which      includes fundraising and campaigning activities. The visit coincided with International Women’s Day on 8th March. IWD is a day for encouraging effective action for advancing and recognising women.  The book tells the story of two sisters, Sofia, 10  and Vinny, 15 – two typical teenagers living in the East End of London and what happens when their friend Abby goes on holiday abroad for a family wedding and never comes back. The book, aimed at Young Adult readers, asks what would you do in that situation – would you turn a blind eye or stand up and  shout “But It’s Not Fair”.
