Careers Updates

The Open University, in partnership with the Russell Group, presents "Jump Start," aimed at assisting students in their transition to university life.

This program provides free online courses, articles, and activities designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of university life and study.

National Careers Week 4th - 9th March 2024

National Careers Week 2024 is an annual initiative dedicated to enhancing careers education and empowering young individuals to explore various career opportunities. Throughout the week, a diverse range of activities including a trip to the Bucks skills show for Year 11 and 12, guest speaker sessions, and online resources are organised to support students in their career exploration journey.

For parents looking to actively engage in National Careers Week, there are numerous
resources available:

  • Online Career Tools: Websites like CareerExplorer and MyNextMove offer comprehensive career assessment tools and resources. These tools help parents and students identify interests, strengths, and potential career paths.
  • Informational Guides: Access informational guides and booklets provided by National Careers Week organisers. These resources outline different career pathways, educational requirements, and job prospects. Check out the National Careers Week website for downloadable guides and materials.
  • Virtual Events and Webinars: Participate in virtual events and webinars featuring industry professionals, career experts, and educators. These sessions offer valuable insights and advice on various career-related topics. Stay updated on upcoming events through the National Careers Week event calendar.
  • Career Workshops: Look out for career workshops hosted by schools and organisations during National Careers Week. These workshops cover topics such as resume writing, interview skills, and career planning. Connect with your child's school or local community centre to find out about workshop opportunities.
  • Career Guidance ADVIZA : Schedule appointments with ADVIZA career guidance counsellor for personalised guidance and support. These professionals can offer tailored advice based on your child's interests, abilities, and career aspirations.

By leveraging these resources and actively participating in National Careers Week activities, parents can play a pivotal role in helping their children navigate the complexities of career exploration and decision-making.


Speakers for schools.pngSpeakers for Schools are running a series of online Open Evenings aimed at children seeking to pursue a career in the creative industries.

Together with Discover! Creative Careers Week 2024, they are delivering a week of free virtual sessions to showcase careers in tech, film, animation, design, music, fashion, publishing, architecture, crafts, heritage, museums, galleries, and more.

Young people will be able to access 3 - 5 hour insights days and longer work experience placements, 1-hour industry spotlight career talks and inspirational talks with speaker - all advertised on the Speakers for Schools website.

Ahead of the Week in November, Speakers for Schools are hosting a 1-hour virtual open evening. You can book your place here.


Bucks Skills Show 2024 - 6th & 7th March 2024

Meet with more than 120 employers at the Bucks Skills Show, Buckinghamshire’s most exciting skills and careers event for people of all ages at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

Get your child ready for this upcoming event for Year 11 and Year 12 with the Visitor’s Pack, now available:

Careers FAIR - 23rd April 2024

The Careers Fair at Aylesbury Vale Academy promises to be an invaluable event for
students.

With over 20 diverse providers ranging from local business owners to esteemed institutions like the armed forces and the NHS, as well as post-16 and post-18 providers, there's a wealth of opportunities to explore. From BMG and London Films Studios to Metro Bank and real estate agents, the fair offers a comprehensive insight into various career paths.

The purpose of the event is to expose students to a wide array of career options, helping them make informed decisions about their futures. By interacting with professionals from different industries and educational institutions, students can gain invaluable insights into potential career pathways and the qualifications required to pursue them.

The desired outcome is to empower students with the knowledge and resources they need to make confident choices about their academic and professional trajectories. This inclusive event is open to all Year groups and will take place on the 23rd of April in the sports hall during the school day.

Pathways for Year 7 and 8

At the Aylesbury Vale Academy, we support our parents with all the difficult decisions their children need to make regarding their future pathways and careers.

If you feel unsure about the different options your child will have after Year 11, please watch the YouTube video clip we shared with our Year 7 and 8 learners, which you can find here.

The Bucks Skills Hub also has a vast amount of information available for learners and parents.


Unifrog

Currently we are busy with a lot of careers activities, especially in Year 8 as they start to think about their options.

Our Year 8 learners are completing a series of worksheets during form time in preparation, and will be supported with a series of Curriculum Leader talks and their use of UNIFROG to support their decisions.

Unifrog is an innovative online platform designed to streamline the post-secondary education and career exploration process for students at the Aylesbury Vale Academy, offering a comprehensive "one-stop shop" experience for parents and learners alike. This platform serves as a centralised hub where students can explore a multitude of opportunities, including university courses, apprenticeships, college programs, and career pathways, all within a single, user-friendly interface.

For parents, Unifrog provides invaluable insights into their child's educational and career journey, allowing them to track progress, access resources, and support decision-making. From researching different pathways to organising application materials and tracking deadlines, Unifrog empowers parents to actively engage in their child's academic and professional development. With its wide range of features and resources, Unifrog is an indispensable tool for parents looking to navigate the complexities of post-secondary education and career planning alongside their child at AVA. Every learner in the school has been given a unifrog login.

Pro:Direct Academy Bucks

The Pro:Direct Academy Bucks is a one or two year programme where footballers will train, play and study full-time.

Players will train to compete in the Tactic League & Cup & ESFA Superleage Cup with exceptional players will receiving opportunities to highlight their ability through our partners Pro:Direct Academy – PDA Eleven and PDA Regional squads all of whom receive the chance to play against professional academy teams, and showcase games with scouts in attendance. Exceptional players will also be signposted to to semi-professional club at Step 2 – 5.

Players will study with a Level 2 or 3 BTEC qualification alongside their football.

We will continue to work hard and ensure we obtain the full certificate of the careers quality mark standard.


Advice & Guidance

At the Aylesbury Vale Academy, we provide a planned programme informing learners about Careers. We provide Advice and Guidance along with employability skills. The school seeks to help all students take their place as suitably qualified and responsible adults within society. 

Providing our learners with a careers program will raise the aspirations and achievement of individual students and equip them with skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding as a foundation for managing their lifelong career and learning. 

We would also like to provide all parents with careers information so you can better support your children, and will therefore be sending you regular updates about careers and labour market information.
