Welcome Year 2 to Week 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you are safe and well during this strange time and would like to express our thanks to you for your support over this last week. We know and understand the challenges you are facing at home with working as well as supporting your children, but we hope you enjoy sharing the learning with them.
We understand that working at home as well as teaching and learning with your child is a lot of work! Please remember you are doing a fantastic job and any time spent working is great. Remember to have fun too, be creative, listen to music and dance. Again, we know that some of you will not have a printer available, so we do not expect you to print anything at all. Any sheets we provide are for you to reference and for your child to look at on a tablet/laptop/phone to help with their learning at home.
To support your child with reading at home, we would like you to use Oxford Owl, where children can access texts to match their book bands from school. You will need to register for an account, but it is free to use for all. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/
As well as this, in our weekly plan we have included 4 60 second reading challenge videos. These 60 second reading challenges consist of a short text for your child to read, followed by 4-5 comprehension questions, practising the different skills. These videos should enable your child to complete the task independently, pausing at different times to answer questions on paper. We have included an introductory video of the 5 different reading characters that represent the 5 skills of comprehension, which your child should be familiar with.
It is important that your child continues to read regularly, home books or banded books, when you can as well as continue with their comprehension skills.
We would love to see how your child is getting on with the remote learning, so please could you share your child's work or activities with us, either by writing a simple email or even sending us pictures. It is also a great opportunity for us to give feedback, which we know your children will appreciate. As well as this, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, on firstname.lastname@example.org . We will ensure to get back to you as soon as we can.
We look forward to hearing from you this week. Keep safe.
