First Ever Gold DofE Expedition Success!

We're incredibly proud to celebrate The Aylesbury Vale Academy's first ever Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award Qualifying Expedition, with four Year 12 students successfully completing the challenge in the stunning Peak District.

Over four days and three nights, the group demonstrated exceptional resilience, teamwork and independence as they navigated through unfamiliar terrain, carrying everything they needed—including food, fuel and camping equipment—from campsite to campsite.

Led by Mr Braybrook, with Mrs Crumpton as expedition assessor, the students impressed throughout. Thanks to their excellent navigation skills, staff only witnessed one minor navigation error, which the team recognised and corrected themselves within just ten minutes—a remarkable achievement, particularly in a location completely unfamiliar to them.

Working under remote supervision, the students were responsible for every aspect of the expedition, with GPS trackers providing additional reassurance while allowing them to demonstrate the independence expected at Gold Award level.

After four demanding days, Mr Braybrook and Mrs Crumpton were waiting at the finish to give the team a well-deserved cheer as they sprinted across the final bridge to complete their expedition.
