It was a thrilling encounter between AVA and Hazeley Academy that had everything — goals, drama, and a nail-biting penalty shootout.

AVA found themselves 1-0 down early on after a slow start, but soon began to grow into the game. By playing more direct and using clever through balls to split Hazeley’s defence, the boys started to create real chances. The pressure paid off when Harry K slotted home the equaliser, making it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half saw Hazeley retake the lead with a long-range effort that looped over our goalkeeper. AVA continued to fight, showing fantastic spirit and determination right until the end — and with just 40 seconds left to play, the moment of the match arrived.

Everyone, including the goalkeeper, went forward for a free kick from the halfway line. The ball was swung into the box, the Hazeley keeper could only palm it out, and after a scramble, it fell perfectly for Thomas V, who volleyed home an incredible equaliser to make it 2-2 and send the game to extra time.

After a tense additional period, the match was decided by penalties. Despite a brave effort from all the boys who stepped up, AVA were narrowly beaten 4-3 in the shootout.

It was a performance full of heart, belief, and never back down attitude.
