Staff Quiz Night Raises Nearly £1,000 for Diabetes UK

AVA staff came together on Friday 21 November for a lively Quiz Night in support of Diabetes UK. A dozen teams from both Primary and Secondary phases took part, raising almost £1,000 for the charity.
After several closely fought rounds, Primary team “Misfits” were crowned overall winners. The evening was a great success, made possible by generous donations of prizes, entry fees from teams, raffle ticket sales, and plenty of laughter along the way.
The quiz was organised by Mrs Ripley, who also took the opportunity to raise awareness of the warning signs of diabetes, known as the Four Ts:
- Toilet – going more often
- Thirsty – feeling constantly thirsty
- Tired – feeling unusually tired
- Thinner – losing weight without trying
She explained that Type 1 diabetes, often diagnosed in childhood, occurs when the body does not produce insulin and is a lifelong condition. Type 2 diabetes, more common in adults, develops when the body cannot use insulin properly. Both types are relentless and can have a huge impact on people’s lives. However, with the right treatment, information and support, people with diabetes can live long, full and healthy lives.
