Supporting International Women’s Day at AVA

Back in November, we marked International Men’s Day with a range of tutor-time activities, and next week we will be recognising International Women’s Day across the whole school week.

This year’s theme is Give to Gain.

International Women’s Day remains as important as ever. While progress has been made, gender inequality continues to affect many areas of life, including pay, leadership representation, safety, wellbeing and access to opportunity.

The week is an opportunity to raise awareness of important issues such as gender-based violence, harassment and unequal unpaid care work, while also celebrating the achievements of women and girls, which too often go unrecognised.

It also gives young people positive role models, encourages men and boys to be active allies, and reminds us all that hard-won rights must continue to be protected and strengthened. Above all, it brings people together around the belief that equality benefits everyone and helps create stronger communities, workplaces and society.

Throughout the week, our Prefects will be leading a range of activities, including:

  • writing positive messages on bathroom mirrors
  • inviting students to pledge their support for gender equality
  • selling purple ribbons in aid of Aylesbury Women’s Aid

We will end the week with a personal development lesson exploring why International Women’s Day is still needed today, before finishing the week by celebrating Mother’s Day.

Purple ribbons will be on sale every morning during AM registration for a suggested donation of £1.

Thank you for your support.
