Welcome to the AVA Secondary Phase Library
The library is a welcoming space designed for students to work and read independently and in classes. We are open throughout the school day, including morning break, lunchtime and for an hour after lessons finish for students to do homework or relax at the end of a busy day.
We build on the work done by our colleagues in the Primary Phase library, who we work closely with. The Secondary library concentrates on fiction to support the KS3 and KS4 English curriculum as well as encouraging reading for pleasure and a lifelong love of reading. It has a wide range of fiction titles – including popular authors and series (many chosen by our students) and we cater to all ages and abilities, including SEND and EASL students. The library has a range of dyslexia-friendly books, large print and "easy-read" titles. We also have shelves dedicated to non-fiction curriculum material (although much of this is now held in the respective departments or is accessible online) and extracurricular hobbies and interests.
We have computers available for students to use for school work and homework. These are available throughout the day.
The library is a lively, vibrant space which is very popular with our students who can get involved in it's running by becoming a Student Librarian – helping to manage the resources, recommending and promoting the books we hold and participating in special events and activities such as our annual "Book Week".
