Celebrating Black History Month at Aylesbury Vale Academy
October marks Black History Month in the UK, an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the history, achievements and cultural contributions of Black people, both in the UK and around the world.
At Aylesbury Vale Academy, we are proud to celebrate the diversity of our school community. Throughout October, students will have opportunities to learn about influential figures, explore different cultures and reflect on the important contributions Black people have made to society.
Activities Throughout October
A variety of activities have been organised across the Academy, including:
- Tutor Time: Learning about and discussing influential Black historical figures and their achievements.
- Friday Lunchtime Music: Celebrating music in the atrium and main hall every Friday.
- Atrium Displays: Featuring flags and inspirational quotes from Black historians, artists and authors.
- Library Book Display: Showcasing literature by Black authors and books exploring Black history and culture.
- Breaktime and Lunchtime Activities: Games and activities organised by our diversity clubs.
- After-School Cultural Workshop: Exploring arts and crafts, music and food from different cultures.
