Marking Armistice Day with Respect and Remembrance

This week our whole school took part in Remembrance assemblies, many led by Rev Lane. On Tuesday, we marked Armistice Day in school, with all children observing a minute’s silence at 11.00am. Some of our pupils joined their secondary colleagues to represent AVA at a Remembrance Service.

Remembrance stands out as a truly meaningful occasion. While it is a very sobering moment, it is also curiously uplifting – this week, seeing our staff and sixth form students gathered along the bannisters, with a large circle formed by our Primary and Secondary Student Parliaments, alongside all the pupils who belong to uniformed organisations, was a moment of real pride. We knew about Beavers, Brownies, Guides and Scouts – but Rainbows and Squirrels joining us from the Primary phase was a particularly lovely touch. Watching every student hold a minute’s silence with such respect was deeply impressive and a powerful reminder of the values we share as a school community.
