Help Support a Phone-Free School
Government announcements in April highlighted proposed new legislation on mobile phone use in schools.
The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill is expected to make smartphone bans a legal requirement in all English schools, turning existing guidance into law. This would support a phone-free school day, including lessons, break and lunchtime, with schools choosing how best to implement this.
At Aylesbury Vale Academy, we already operate a clear and successful ‘never seen, never used, never heard’ mobile phone policy.
Recently, however, we have seen an increase in students contacting parents during the school day, which is not permitted and can cause significant disruption to learning and student wellbeing. Sanctions will be issued where this occurs.
We kindly ask parents and carers to support the academy by avoiding messaging students during school hours. If there is ever an emergency or urgent issue, school staff will always contact families directly.
Thank you for your continued support.
