Science Exams Update - Years 9 & 10

Upcoming Science exams notice.

Year 9

All Year 9 students will sit a 45‑minute Science exam during their timetabled science lesson on Tuesday 02 June

The assessment will cover material studied since September and will be used to inform grading, as well as to help determine group placements, including top set and mixed‑ability classes (Combined Science only).

Year 10

All Year 10 students will sit three examination papers: Biology Paper 1, Chemistry Paper 1 and Physics Paper 1.

These are the 2025 GCSE Combined Science papers, recently used by the current Year 11 cohort for their PPE (mock) assessments.

Our current proposed schedule is:

  • Biology Paper 1: week commencing 08 June
  • Chemistry Paper 1: week commencing 15 June
  • Physics Paper 1: week commencing 22 June

Please note that these dates are subject to confirmation by the exams team. Parents will be informed of any changes. However, you can be reassured that the exams will not take place any earlier than the dates listed above.

The assessments will cover content studied since the beginning of Year 9 and will be used to inform grading, as well as to support decisions regarding group placements, including top set and mixed-ability classes (Combined Science only).

Students have been provisionally entered for either Foundation Tier (Grades 1–5) or Higher Tier (Grades 3–9), and the outcomes of these examinations will be used to refine tier allocations. This process will continue during the Year 11 PPE assessments in October and January.

Parents can support their child’s preparation by encouraging them to revise the topics listed in the documents below.
