Duke of Edinburgh Students Put Skills to the Test

On Thursday 23 April, 66 students took part in their Duke of Edinburgh Practice Walk. Students developed their map-reading skills before putting them into action as they navigated routes around the Berryfields area.
We were fortunate with the weather, and the students did an excellent job navigating throughout the two-hour walk, covering approximately 8km. Several students even commented afterwards that they had enjoyed some of the best night’s sleep they’d had in a long time!
On the 1st May, students also took part in our DofE Campout evening, where they practised pitching tents and cooking their own meals. It proved to be a fantastic evening, with many students proudly declaring their food to be “the best food ever” — although a few admitted they may need a little more practice cooking pasta!
It has been brilliant to see students truly ‘learning by doing’, and their enthusiasm, teamwork and resilience throughout the activities have been fantastic. We are all looking forward to the first Expedition!
