ASSESSMENT WEEKS
Assessment Weeks 2026-2027
This year we have introduced Assessment Weeks across the secondary phase as part of our commitment to ensuring every student achieves their full potential. These dedicated assessment periods will take place at key points throughout the academic year and form an important part of our wider approach to assessment, feedback and student progress.
Assessment Weeks will complement the high-quality teaching and ongoing formative assessment that takes place every day in classrooms through questioning, discussion, feedback and practical learning activities. They will provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their learning in a more formal setting, helping teachers identify strengths, address misconceptions and provide appropriate support and challenge.
Why are we introducing assessment weeks?
Assessment Weeks bring a number of important benefits for students:
- Develop effective revision habits by encouraging students to plan, organise and review their learning.
- Build examination confidence through regular experience of assessment conditions and examination-style questions.
- Identify strengths and learning gaps so that students know what they have mastered and where further improvement is needed.
- Receive meaningful feedback that supports future progress.
- Track progress over time across subjects and year groups.
- Strengthen long-term memory and retention through regular retrieval of prior learning.
- Inform future intervention and support, ensuring every student receives the help and challenge they need to succeed.
Assessment Weeks are just one part of our assessment strategy. Throughout the year, students will continue to benefit from:
- Diagnostic assessments that identify prior knowledge and understanding.
- Ongoing formative assessment within lessons.
- Self and peer assessment opportunities.
- Summative assessments, including end-of-unit tests and Assessment Week examinations.
This balanced approach ensures assessment supports learning rather than simply measuring it.
The outcomes from Assessment Weeks will contribute to the information shared with families through our reporting process. These reports will provide a clear picture of student attainment and progress, helping parents and carers understand how well their child is achieving and where additional support may be beneficial.
Strong partnerships between home and school play a vital role in student success. Regular communication and shared expectations help improve attendance, behaviour and academic achievement.
Preparing students for success
In the lead-up to each Assessment Week, students will receive:
- Subject-specific revision guidance.
- Clear information about the content being assessed.
- Opportunities to review and practise key knowledge and skills in lessons.
- Support from teachers in developing effective revision strategies.
- Feedback from previous assessments to help focus revision efforts.
How Parents and Carers can help
We encourage families to support students by:
- Establishing regular revision routines.
- Promoting excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Discussing learning and academic goals at home.
- Encouraging independent study habits and positive learning behaviours.
Assessment Weeks will help our students become resilient, reflective and independent learners while providing valuable information about their progress and attainment. Most importantly, they will ensure students are well prepared for future examinations and equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed.
