Exciting Author Visit for Reception & Year 1!

Mevan Babakar visited Reception and Year 1 this week to talk about her re-life experience as a child refugee. Mevan was born in Iraq, but her family needed to leave when war broke out. She spoke about the countries she needed to stop in before she finally made her way to England..

Her picture book is about a kind maintenance man who looked after her block in the Netherlands. Mevan became scared to leave her block, so the maintenance man brought her a bicycle and she became confident enough to go outside again.

Mevan was sensitive to the ages of the children as she retold her story, and they were hooked on her every word. This is the first time we have been able to invite an author in for our Reception and Year 1 children and they were an absolute credit to our school. Well done!
